Klaus Mauch - CEO & CTO

Klaus Mauch is one of Insilico’s co-founders and became managing director in 2004 and CEO in 2006. In his previous role as CTO, he was responsible for the design and development of Insilico’s modelling and simulation platform where he established novel methods for the computer-aided construction of cellular networks. Before that, he gained extensive experience in metabolic engineering and applied systems biology as a group leader at the Institute of Biochemical Engineering, University of Stuttgart. He was awarded a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering by the Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany. Klaus is a member of the Advisory Board of the Division Systems Biology and Synthetic Biology of DECHEMA, board member of the Industrial Association White Biotechnology (IWBio), and board member of the Association of German Biotechnology Companies (VBU).

Averina Nicolae - Head of Biotechnological Process Optimisation

Averina Nicolae heads our projects dealing with the optimization of biotechnological production processes. Her focus is the development of predictive cell models for cell line engineering, media design and feeding strategies as well as clone selection and upscaling. Averina studied chemical and process engineering at the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania. After her PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Saarbrücken, she carried out postdoctoral work in the Systems Biochemistry group at the University of Luxembourg. She joined Insilico Biotechnology in 2016. The Insilico team benefits from Averina's extensive experience in mammalian systems biology and constraint-based metabolic modeling.

Lothar Terfloth - Head of Innovation

Lothar Terfloth leads the innovation management at Insilico. Lothar coordinates the interaction of Insilico's R&D with external research partners. He initiates and manages our integration in collaborative research consortia and thus is always in touch with the most recent developments where our technology helps to promote progress. In addition, Lothar supports and facilitates our agile product and project management as certified scrum master. After having completed his studies and PhD in organic chemistry in 1999 at the University of Münster, Germany, he held a postdoctoral research position at the Computer Chemistry Center at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. Prior to joining Insilico in 2014, he headed the R&D section at Molecular Networks GmbH in Erlangen, Germany. Lothar is a member of the scientific advisory board of the International Conference on Chemical Structures.

Dirk Rathfelder - Head of Business Development

Dirk leads Insilico's Business Development team at the interface with our customers and partners. His goal is to establish and to develop sustainable business relationships which are profitable for both sides. He is also responsible for managing the business aspects of our R&D service projects and software products. Dirk obtained his Master's degree in Biology from the University of Freiburg and worked for global IT players for more than 15 years before he joined Insilico Biotechnology in 2015. Dirk's life science background and his many years of experience in international IT business management and communication are an excellent basis for his interdisciplinary role at Insilico.
